Avrasya Tuz A.Ş which is a subsidiary of Barer Yatırım Holding and Atlas Yatırım A.Ş operates in salt production on an area of 20,000 m2.

It has an annual production capacity of 230 thousand tons of mechanical oven salt and 170 thousand tons of washed salt (semi-finished product). It continues its activities with firm steps towards taking an active role in the domestic market and opening up to the foreign market.

YAVŞAN SALTWORK

Yavşan saltwork is located on the west coast of Salt Lake, 22km from Cihanbeyli district of Konya province, within the borders of Üçler quarter of Cihanbeyli district. The company started to serve in 1927 and started planned production in 1947.

PRODUCTION FACILITIES AND SALT RESERVE

Yavşan saltwork has been producing with docking system since 1974. Production is carried out in 13 crystallization pools until 2011 and 7 after 2011, with a total area of 8.5 km₂.

The thickness of the salt layer formed in the lake varies between 5 and 15 cm, depending on seasonal conditions and water conditions, with an average of 8 cm.

It is calculated as Salt production area (8.5km₂) * Average salt thickness (8cm) * Salt density (natural density -1.9t/m₃) = 1.3 million tons. The moisture content of the salt crust, the cohesion, and the growth states of the salt crystals can change the natural density. For this reason, instead of the 2.2 t/m₃ density value used in the reserve calculation for Salt Lake, the 1.9 t/m₃ value obtained as a result of the experiments was used.

BUSINESS LICENSE

Production in Yavşan saltwork is carried out with the mining operation license provided by the T.R Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, General Directorate of Mining Affairs. The last license for Yavşan saltwork as of January 21, 2003 is valid for 29 years until January 21, 2032.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

Salt is produced by evaporation method in Yavşan saltwork During the summer months, the salt in the water rising due to evaporation leaves the bottom and the natural salt layers formed in the production area are collected by construction machines. Production starts in the last week of July or the beginning of August, after the lake dries up. With the aim of making salt formation thicker and more efficient in Yavşan Saltwork, in April, when evaporation starts, four 600Ø electric pumps with 90 kW motor power are taken from the lake basin with appropriate chemical values to the crystallization pools. Product efficiency and quality have been increased with the qualified water purchased.

The production was traditionally carried out with rail systems until 2005, as well as with the French-made PR-110 salt collector with a capacity of 200 tons/hour purchased in 1999, until 2006. Since 2006, the modern production method has been adopted and production is carried out with cold diggers or asphalt mills. Thanks to these milling cutters, salt can be cut at the desired level and loaded onto traveling trucks. The highest level of performance is obtained in terms of efficiency, quality, time and capacity.

Production with the rail system: After 2005, the salt layers cut by the mills started to be transported to the stock areas by trucks, with the provision of suitable ground in the rehabilitated crystallization pools that were abandoned. In this way, production costs are reduced to a minimum.

In line with the data above, it is observed that after the transfer of the business from Tekel, the production costs were reduced, the productivity increased, the product yield and quality increased by transforming from the classical production style into the modern production style.
